Ratchet Binder Sizes and Grades

We occasionally get questions about the size and grades of our ratchet binders. All of our transport package binders support two sizes, and the size will determine the grade for your application. Those two sizes are 5/16" and 3/8", or 3/8" and 1/2". 

For 5/16" - 3/8" binders, used as 5/16" the binder is rated G7, and used as a 3/8" the binder is G4.

This transport package is an example of the above ratings. 

On the other hand, for the 3/8" - 1/2" binders, used as 3/8" the binder is rated G7, used as 1/2" the binder is G4.

If you use binders rated 5/16" G7 and 3/8" G4 with 3/8" transport chains, the binder becomes the weak link at a rating of Grade 43, even if your 3/8" chains are grade 70. It is your responsibility to confirm these ratings on your binders and to safely use at least the minimum grade necessary for all components used to secure your loads. Note that each binder is imprinted with both sizes that are supported on both hooks. If you flip the hook over, you'll see the other supported size on that side, as circled in the images below:
